Nissan trucks aren’t made in Japan, despite the company’s origins. So where are they made, and why?

Where Are Nissan Trucks Made?

The Nissan Titan, Nissan Titan XD, and the Nissan Frontier are assembled in Canton, Mississippi. While some components like the transmission come from Japan, overall it’s much more cost effective for Nissan to build their trucks here. Nissan not only saves on import duties that they would have to pay to ship completed trucks into the country, but they also get to provide a direct supply of quality pickups to the largest market for those kinds of vehicles.

The Nissan Vehicle Assembly Plant in Canton is massive. It has a production capacity of 450,000 vehicles, and more than 3 million models have rolled off the line there since it opened in May 2003. In addition to the trucks listed above, the Canton factory is also responsible for assembling Nissan NV cargo and passenger vans, and the Nissan Murano. Nissan Altima models are also produced there to supplement models built at the Smyrna, Tennessee plant.

Also of note, the plant in Canton is home to around 6,400 employees. So Nissan not only builds their trucks close to the people who are buying them, but it’s providing jobs for those hardworking people, too.

The trucks are designed and tested right here in the US, too. That makes it even easier to get real-world feedback from the kinds of everyday Americans they expect to drive these trucks.

The Nissan Titan – first produced in 2004 – is almost completely manufactured in the USA and was listed as the Best Full-Size Truck by Edmunds.com as well as in many Top 5 Truck lists across the states. The transition is imported directly from Japan – but the majority of the truck’s components are produced or sourced from the USA or Canada.

In fact, the Nissan Titan was designed in California, engineered in Michigan, and tested in Arizona. The engine is built in Indiana and the trucks are assembled – alongside many other US favorites – in Mississippi. You might say the Titan is a real American truck.

The same goes for the Nissan Titan XD, a step above the full-size Titan that is also available with a 5.0L Cummins® Turbo Diesel engine.

The Nissan Frontier – a midsize pickup – is also produced here in the USA for the North American market. It offers all the best parts of a larger truck, without the extra size or heavier handling to deal with. This is a perfect pickup to straddle the line between work and play.
