All-new for 2026

A ground-up redesign — more range, more tech, still under $30K.

2026 Nissan LEAF, front three-quarter studio view
Why Chicagoland drivers go electric with the LEAF

Built for the commute, ready for the cold.

An EV makes a lot of sense for the way people actually drive around Chicago — short, stop-and-go runs where instant torque and one-pedal driving shine, and a battery you top up at home instead of chasing gas prices. The new LEAF’s liquid-cooled battery and thermal management are designed to hold up better through a Chicago winter than older EVs did.

  • Instant torque and a low center of gravity for confident grip pulling away from a snowy light
  • Liquid-cooled battery with thermal management to help protect range when temperatures drop
  • Cabin preconditioning while plugged in — warm the car off wall power, not the battery, before you leave the garage
  • Heated seats and steering wheel (SV+ and Platinum+) for Edens and Kennedy commutes in January
  • NACS access to Tesla Superchargers along I-94 and I-90 for trips up to the lake or out of state
  • Available Vehicle-to-Load power — run a space heater, tools, or essentials during a North Shore outage

2026 LEAF FAQ

Questions Chicago EV shoppers actually ask before buying.

If your question isn’t covered here, call us at (847) 965-3460 — our team will give you a straight answer.

How much does the 2026 Nissan LEAF cost?

Starting MSRP runs from $29,990 for the S+ to $38,990 for the Platinum+, before the $1,545 destination charge. The mid-range SV+ starts at $34,230. Nissan bills the S+ as the lowest-priced new EV on sale in the U.S. today. Call us for current pricing and any EV offers on the trim you want.

How far can the 2026 LEAF go on a charge?

Up to 303 miles (EPA-estimated) on the S+, 288 miles on the SV+, and 259 miles on the Platinum+ — all from the same 75 kWh liquid-cooled battery. Real-world range is lower in deep cold, which is normal for any EV; the LEAF’s battery thermal management is designed to help.

Does the new LEAF use the Tesla charging port?

Yes. The 2026 LEAF has a standard NACS port, so it plugs directly into 25,000+ Tesla Superchargers and other NACS fast chargers — no adapter needed. It also has a separate J1772 port for Level 1 and Level 2 home and workplace charging. A CCS adapter is available if you want to add more fast-charging options.

How long does the LEAF take to charge?

On a public DC fast charger, the LEAF goes from 10% to 80% in about 35 minutes. On a 240-volt Level 2 home charger it’s roughly 6.5 hours for a full charge — most owners just plug in overnight and top up about once a week. A portable charge cable for a standard 120-volt outlet is included.

Is the Nissan LEAF good in Chicago winters?

It’s well suited to it. Instant torque and a low center of gravity give confident grip pulling away from a snowy light, and the liquid-cooled battery with thermal management helps protect range when it’s cold. You can precondition the cabin while it’s plugged in — so it’s warm off wall power before you unplug — and SV+ and Platinum+ add heated seats and a heated wheel. Note the LEAF is front-wheel drive; it does not offer all-wheel drive.

Does the 2026 LEAF qualify for tax credits or rebates?

EV incentives change often and depend on the program, your situation, and available funding, so we won’t quote a number here. Illinois rebates, Nissan offers, and utility programs can all apply — the fastest way to see what you’d actually save is our LEAF incentive & savings calculator or a quick call to (847) 965-3460.

Is the new LEAF an SUV or a hatchback?

The third-generation LEAF is redesigned as a subcompact electric crossover — taller and more SUV-like than the old hatchback, with a sleek, aerodynamic roofline. It seats five and offers 20 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats.

Does an electric LEAF need oil changes or much maintenance?

No oil changes, no spark plugs, no transmission service — an EV has far fewer moving parts than a gas car. You’ll still want tire rotations, brake checks, cabin filters, and the occasional inspection, and our factory-trained EV techs handle all of it. Many owners find charging at home costs less than filling a gas tank, too.

Do you have the 2026 LEAF in stock near Evanston and Chicago?

We stock LEAF trims and colors at our Skokie showroom, minutes from Evanston, Niles, Lincolnwood, and Chicago’s North Side. If we don’t have your exact configuration, we can usually locate it within 48 hours.

Can I finance a LEAF with less-than-perfect credit?

Yes. We work with a network of lenders, including options for bad or no credit. You can get pre-approved online with no impact to your credit score before you ever visit.

What warranty comes with a new LEAF?

Every new LEAF includes a 36-month/36,000-mile basic warranty, a 60-month/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, and — importantly for an EV — an 8-year/100,000-mile limited warranty on the lithium-ion battery, plus 60 months/60,000 miles on the EV system components.

Is the Nissan LEAF a good car?

The all-new LEAF arrived to strong reviews and awards, including recognition from Car and Driver, U.S. News, Kelley Blue Book, and MotorWeek. With up to 303 miles of range, native Tesla Supercharger access, and a sub-$30,000 starting price, it’s one of the easiest EVs to live with for most Chicago-area drivers.

How long does the LEAF’s battery last?

Nissan backs the battery with an 8-year/100,000-mile limited warranty, and the new generation adds liquid cooling and thermal management to help it age well. Nissan LEAF owners have driven more than 18 billion EV miles worldwide — there’s a long track record behind the badge.
